coles notes on "the other woman"

do i have this right:

basically, charles widmore is looking for the island and he is responsible for the freighter being out there and also the team of naomi, et al.

he wants to find the island because it's a special place with special properties.

ben is defending the island from the outside world and uses gas, smoke monster, whatever to keep unwanted peoples out.

so charles widmore wants ben taken out so that the island can be all his.

did i miss anything?

and Fraday and Charlotte are the new deputys sorta saying Widmore is a good guy

i.e. Ben would gas everyone

I think Charles Widmore knows that the survivors are on the island, he just can't get to it. When Ben was talking to Locke he said Widmore wanted to exploit the island, like sell glimpses of the survivors of the plane crash for money-Ben made some sort of comparison when explaining this to Locke, but I forget what he said. Gotta check that out when the episode is online.

He mentioned seeing the face of the Virgin Mary in some mold in Florida - thousands flocked to it. How many more would flock to see Locke walking again?

yes, i remember that scene, but i don't think he was talking about "selling" the phenomena.

he said, the face of the virgin mary drew 5000 people to it. i think he meant people who were looking for hope or answers. or help or miracles.

I'm not sure you can say that Ben and Widmore are bad guys. Not until we know what their ultimate goal is. They both are working for their own end, neither of which are particularly evil in their own right. They both kill in order to make their plans happen but which one should morally win out? We really don't know who's side to align with except to say that the plane survivors seem the most clueless therefore making them innocent.

Maybe it's so obvious that nobody feels the need to mention it, but there's obviously more going on at the tempest station that generation of electricity.

Also, I can't put my finger on it, but there's some association in the back of my mind between the word "tempest" and the smoke monster

I think Ben is manipulating Locke (again) to gain more freedom and leverage. Locke doesn't let anyone comunicate to Ben (like Clair), so Ben is telling him about their common enemy to gain that trust. Like he said, he always has a plan and making moves to increase everyone's questioning of Locke is a good start. Locke saw a video, but only a brief scene and is only going off what Ben told him.

I do think Ben is evil, all of his actions demonstrate that. What good has he done that didn't somehow benefit him?

I'm sure that eventually Desmond will hear about what Locke saw and confirm Locke's suspicions, but it's possible that Widmore is trying to get to the island for a good reason .

I agree that Ben is manipulating Locke again.. Remember that Juliette said that Ben is right where Ben wants to be..
