Default this episode blew

Am I the only one who thought this episode was beyond bad, and that the show has officially crossed the point of no return? The overall plot of Lost has become so cluttered that it ceases to be enjoyable on any level for me. The characters barely exist anymore, and every other episode introduces a completely new scientific/supernatural phenomenon that overcomplicates the show.

Desmond's story from season 3 up til now has been inconsistent and illogical, and just because you're confused doesn't mean the show is brilliant. Last night, the acting and dialogue were off-the-charts bad, and Desmond was the most guilty party in the acting category. Over the top, yelling, screaming - tone it down, Des.

Writers - put all the twists on the back burner for a while, go back to the old mysteries you never answered (remember when people used to hear whispering on the island and that was enough to give you goosebumps?) and bring character and dialogue back to the front burner.

Oh, and have the show actually take place on the island again.

I'll say that while I didn't think the episode was horrible, I don't think it was quite "epic" (as others have put it) either.

I agree it was not epic. It was good in that it leads us into some understanding of some things while still being bewildered.
Even though I do find Desmond's story interesting and I find it as part of the story-driven necessity for Lost, I am not "on the edge of my seat" thrilled during Desmond-centric episodes.

Quirky scientist is fairly interesting, too, but would not make me tune in just to see him.

In Second Season, I think, there were like 3 episodes in a row that was Jack, jack, jack and I grew sick of him.

My favorites, and the only ones I call 5stars, have Locke or Ben in it a lot.

Sorry Red, I'm neither confused nor do I think Desmonds eps are bad. In fact, they a bring a light to the mysteries more than any other characters, and the writers basically tell us that because like Flashes, the whole episode basically revolves around Desmond, with only slight looks at the island and other characters. if you don't see the importance of Desmond or why this is the beginning of the mysteries unraveling, then go watch Biggest Loser.

The creators of the show have promised us plot progression and they are delivering on that promise. I was worried about when we would start finding out answers and if it would kill the show, and i have to say that i am impressed the creators have managed to reveal stuff while making the show better and better every week. It's unfortunate that you did not enjoy the episode, but i do believe you are in the minority. Die hard lost fans loved it.

If you're not confused, maybe you could explain how Desmond's consciousness jumping works, and why sometimes '04 Desmond takes over '96 Desmond, and sometimes it's vice versa. And if '96 Desmond "jumped in" on the helicopter, taking over for the rest of the episode, how come he told Penny on the phone that he had been on an island, as if he suddenly remembered? Why does his physical body pass out sometimes when his consciousness jumps to a different time, yet others, he stays awake and regains his memory of where he is and who he is with? And if he jumped to the future to see all of Charlie's deaths, why did he get deja vu when he relived those moments? Wouldn't his past consciousness jump in and take over in those moments, leaving him totally bewildered? There are too many paradoxes, unless I'm way off on everything. Please share ideas.

the flashes of desmonds mind goign back and forward through time is a little bit different than him seeing what is going to happen i think. leaving the island made the consciousness side effects that faraday was talking about. It is a little confusing to explain though.

But hey i believe this is the best episode so far this season and i love Desmond centric episodes!
