Default Circle of Time Events

This seems to always happen when people try time travel. Circular events always happen... tonight on Lost it also happened. Try to follow this

Desmond got the numbers (2.342 and 11 Hz) from Faraday in 2004...
This means that Faraday had the numbers already from before 2004.

Desmond gives the numbers to Faraday in 1996, and it completes his experiment with elouise the lab rat...
This means that Faraday didn't know the numbers before Desmond gave them to him.

Here's the circle: Desmond got numbers from Faraday in 2004 that Faraday knew about because Faraday got the numbers from Desmond in 1996.

What came first the chicken or the egg?? In this case neither.

Time travel paradoxes suck.

Locke cooked the last of the eggs and killed the chicken I guess we'll never know which came first. Just a little Lost humor so no throw beer bottles at me haha

I took it that maybe Faraday figured the right settings out sometime in 1997 or thereabouts. So he told Des to tell his past self the numbers before he had them.

The numbers are eerily similar to Miles' financial demand on Ben: 3.2, 3.3. 3.4 - you have 2 days.

wow, nice theory, but wasnt todays episode the same as Donnie Darko's movie? Its a simple philosophy of time travel, Donnie died, Desmond lived. Desmond had a constant!

i think daniel found out the numbers from Desmond originally and knew this would occur. It would explain why in his diary he wrote about Desmand being hsi constant.

Remeber when Daniel was crying and he didn't know why? Maybe his conciouness was sent to that point and he started crying because of something that he remmebered or realizing he was sent back. Then he got sent back and he wouldn't remmeber why he was crying. Make sense??

these events definitely directly contribute to why daniel was crying. i can't exactly place how. i think that daniel always received the right settings from desmond. here is where the concept of time not being linear comes in. i can't say that i have a full grasp on it. since time is not linear events in the future do have an effect on events in the past in some unique situations - such as this one.

good catch bee on the numbers and i also agree with bad student and beefjello that it ties in with why daniel is crying. perhaps when he tries to get off the island, he pops into the past and starts to cry because of latent memories or he knows what happens to him or what will happen to him.

also, in the conversation that des has with faraday at the university, faraday says YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE FUTURE. however, when faraday reads his journal at the end, he is clearly looking for an entry that probably wasn't there before. the entry about des being his constant. so doesn't that mean that it DID change the future?

Unless Faraday wrote that before he knew a Desmond, thinking he might meet him someday. But who knows?

Another thought, is the time-travel messing with the brains one reason why Daniel might need to play the card memory game?

I like this a lot. Let's say Daniel is a 'traveler'. He has a caretaker so he doesn't end up killing himself by drowning in the bathtub or breaking his head open when he warps. He's crying the first time we see him because he just returned from a point in the future where he was crying, which would explain why he doesn't know why he's crying. I think that's what you're saying right?
