Clarification for Desmond's timeline?

Can someone please order the following events for me?:

Desmond begs Penny for her phone number
Desmond in the monastery
Desmond in the military
Desmond in military prison
Desmond enters the sailing race
Desmond found on the island by Inman
Desmond calls Penny 8 years later

I'm unclear on how exactly the scenes from Desmond's life tonight fit into the events in his life that we already know about.

One thought I had: Maybe Desmond gets sent to military prison because he goes AWOL in search of Daniel over at Cambridge? Desmond had his military haircut then. (Penny's father would have known about this and thought Desmond was just a coward, but now we know better!)

I think it is:

Desmond is in relationship with Ruth and they end it- 1995
Desmond in the monastary-1995
Desmond and Penny Picture- 1996
Desmond in Military - 1996
Desmond begs for Pen's # - 1996
Desmond in Military prison 1996-1999
Desmond enters boat race 2001
Desmond is found by Inman- 2001
Desmond calls Penny 8 years later- 2004

He had two days leave, so I don't think it was AWOL. But who knows? Maybe Penny's dad paid someone to throw him in there?

I actually concidered Whitmore had something to do with it when I was reading about the auction.. I think he knows what happened to Desmond..

i think wednighters time line is correct and accurate!

You don't get 3 years for simple awol. had to be more or something else.

maybe he kept arguing with that commander that was yelling at him and when he got back from his leave, the fighting continued and des punched him or accidently killed him

maybe assaulted him.
in the military, killing someone gets you a long stretch.....like they keep your body in prison until 3 years after you died.

he definitely did something more or something else other than awol.

AWOL is not that serious but, in the US Army anyway, they can literally still shoot you on sight for desertion. That is a serious matter.

Perhaps he got caught deserting, but he was flipping out about the time travel thing so the gave him a lesser sentence and a discharge cause the military thought he was going crazy.
