Boone Carlyle

Boone Carlyle was a middle section survivor of Oceanic Flight 815 and was Shannon's stepbrother. He attempted to assume a semi-leadership role with the survivors but failed due to being rash and young, though he became Locke's apprentice when the two formed a close bond. Boone survived on the Island for 41 days before he died of injuries sustained in a fall whilst he tried to contact 'rescuers' from the drug smugglers' plane. According to Locke, Boone was a sacrifice the Island demanded.

He just said "fire the payload" or something like that never said a number, seems like by the way she recognised what he was talking about right away im guessing it was probably a pre-determined thing.

Or maybe is could "seek" the target...either way, I didn't remember a bearing being given...

Quote:
DANIEL walks towards his equipment, dialing the phone. JACK stands up.]

REGINA: (on phone) Hello?

DANIEL: Regina? Hey, hi, it’s Dan. Hang on.

[DANIEL pushes a button on the phone and sets it on the ground next to his briefcase.]

DANIEL: Can you hear me?

REGINA: Yeah.

DANIEL: Yeah, hang on.

[DANIEL pushes a button on his equipment, which beeps.]

DANIEL: I’m all, yes, [pushes a button] I’m all set here, I have a fix. Are you locked in?

[JACK looks confused and concerned.]

REGINA: Getting your signal pretty clear.

DANIEL: Oh, okay, great, then. Okay. Fire the payload.

REGINA: Payload away
.

Daniel apparently was to send his location over the phone or the freighter was able to get the signal from that device Daniel set up. But darn it - they never said any coordinates!

Has anyone considered the idea of Faraday's time traveling ablity to take everyone back in time before the plane crash, and warn the captain of what is going to happen in the future as to prevent all this in the first place from even occuring? That would explain Faraday's message to himself "If anything goes wrong, Desmond will be my constant." Since Des isn't even on the plane and he's trapped on the island regardless of the plane crash. It would also explain Faraday's crying scene when he sees the plane wreckage into the bottom of the ocean, yeah he thought he brought them all back in time to survive, but maybe changing the future can only be altered so much. He's sitting there watching his t.v. screen and realized he failed even after going back in time and atempting to alter the future. That could also explain why theres a different captain in the ocean wreckage- they figured by changing the captain, the plane would not end up going so far out of the way. Some things, however such as the plane crashing (regardless of where or why) are bound to happen and can't be altered by any means. (The whole idea of fate which I also think is big theme of the entire show.)

just my idea

I don't know that I believe that is what happened but it could explain why Frank Lapidus said that he was the one who was supposed to be the pilot of Oceanic 815 and not Seth Norris. It's an idea worth thinking about.

Anyone consider Desmond trying to leave the island once and ended up back on the island? Possibly because he did not follow the bearings. This could also effect why he is a time traveler.

If Faraday sent Desmond to meet him in 1996 he should remember it. However the non-linear function of time in an equation such as this can be very difficult to predict. It is all basically theoretical. The memory problems that arise would just be one aspect of disturbances in linear time flow. When two distinct realities converge it should be somewhat like an eddy in the water, or two oscillating waves. One function may cancel the other out, or they may exist side-by-side in perpetuity. This could lead to an unstable version of reality in which certain possibilities come into and go out of existence.
When Faraday is watching the news footage of the crash he is greatly disturbed, likely because he knows he is about to collide with something he forgot about long ago. Or else he does remember meeting Des and the footage of the plane wreck is the solid proof he has been looking for that he isn't crazy and the island actually does exist, and he is about to go there.

NOTE: I am not a physicist or scientist by any means, just a casual reader of books on quantum physics.

8 min. video on interesting experiments in quantum mechanics, non-linear physics.

Yes I think it is exactly like the rat.

In Faraday's personal point of view, he did not remember telling Des to tell the settings to the 1996 Faraday, because he did not tell Des until 2004.

Anyone watch Dr. Who? He would say things like..."Yes, I've been here, but not yet"
which meant in HIS timeline he had been to the planet, but in the planets future.

I once had a modern physics professor that would skip all chapters based on particle theory! He did research in plasma physics at NASA.
