Hey, no worries. I guarantee they placed the ring on the finger for a reason. They want people to pick up on clues that will never amount to anything. I think that it's so we are distracted by unimportant stuff and we don't ever come too close to solving the mystery of LOST.

what if des ended up in the military prison because of unauthorized leave which took place in this episode because of his time travelling experience and trying to find penny etc? that would be trippy.

penny is the constant. she and des share something really special (not like jack and kate or sawyer and kate) and she has faith in him and loves him despite their troubles. how about that, after all the futuristic time travel and mega corporate conspiracies, it turns out that Lost is really a show about love. awww...

I think it was important that, when Des asked Penny's dad why he hated him so much, his reply was, "I am not the one who hates you."

Considering the fate of the boat he bought the secretive log book from at the auction, I have a feeling Penny's dad plays a major role in this. Guess we'll see-maybe just a diversion.

Do you guys think for an american audience they would intentionally kind of show you Penny had the ring on a certain finger so to make sure it got through? that maybe she wasn't married?

in some cultures the woman wears the ring on her right hand when she is "promised" to another, such as engaged and then moves the ring to the left when she is married.

But i think you have a point darnzy, if they wanted us to think penny was married, i think they would have purposely put the ring on the left hand rather than send out mixed signals by putting it on the right. or maybe they know that wouldn't matter, we would speculate either way...

Did Desmond ever buy a ring? Or the white haired lady scared him off from doing that? I can't remember. I thought maybe Penny had a ring from Desmond.

No, he ended up throwing it in the river in the episode dealing with his first "time travel".

I think that if they didn't intend us to think she was married, they really misjudged their audience. Look at how long a post we've got here on the possibility. I do however think that if she were married she may not have been so free with the "I love you Desmonds" and "I'll wait for you," etc.
