Paulo

Paulo was one of the middle section survivors of Flight 815. Before the crash, he and Nikki Fernandez murdered Howard L. Zukerman and stole his diamonds. They spent most of their time on the island searching for these diamonds to the exclusion of almost everything else. A bite from a Medusa spider induced a death-like paralysis in Paulo. He subsequently died as a result of being buried alive while paralized.

Default Slaughterhouse 5

Anyone out there ever read Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.? It's a classic novel for disaffected high schoolers who are being awakened to amazing fiction and what it can do to to their brains and the way they see the world. The first line is "Billy Pilgrim has become unstuck in time." Just like it sounds, the main character lives in every time period of his life simultaneously. Just like Desmond! It's one of my personal faves and I'm sure the producers have read it.

When Desmond started becoming unstuck, Kilgore Trout was the first thing that popped into my mind. I shouted out loud when Daniel actually used the term "unstuck in time".

Me too! I shouted it out too! You must be my evil twin. Or...am I your evil twin?

(Evil twin is another connection to Lost, isn't it? Wow, I wasn't even trying. Lost is everywhere!)

To tsimer and Wednighter:
Even if it didn't have a lost connection, I'd HIGHLY reccomend it.
It's mandatory for anyone who wants to consider himself well read.
It's also short and not too difficult dispite the herky-jerky timeline.

There are more literary references in this series than I've ever seen in anything.
Finally my reclusive bookworminess pays off.

I saw the movie when it came out in the early 70's, just a few years after the book came out. It is no substitute for the book but I did like it. It is available on VHS - I bought it for my son after he read the book a few years back. Kirk V. died just a year or two ago
