Here's what I don't understand about Kate. I would say from days 1-60 she did not want to get off the island. She wanted to stay because she knew her fate if she returned to the mainland. However, somewhere toward days 70-90 she flipped (like Sawyer flipped by not calling people nicknames for awhile, like Hurley flipped and started acting like a decision-making hero, like Charlie flipped and went from being a non-swimming whiner to a heroic dive captain, etc.). Now, she wants to get back to the island. So much so that she steals Miles to talk to Ben to find out what the Freighties know about her. WTF? What changed?
Although, I'm guessing another 'deal' is made that forces her off island regardless of what she actually wants to do. I'm also wondering if she changed her mind about going off island after Miles told her that everyone knows she's a fugitive.
In regards to loving or hating or being ambivalent to Kate:
you have to remember that they almost had her as the main character (Jack). they were going to kill jack off in the first episode until ABC started crying like tiny infant babies. I'm glad they did though, as I think it was the right decision. It just shows how much power the overall corporate entity (Disney/ABC) has in the final decision-making, as it completely changed the show. Hopefully, they don't interfere too much more and allow Darlton to tell their story. We'll see...
