Dr. Jack Shephard

Dr. Jack Shephard is often seen as the main character of the series. He is a spinal surgeon and the de facto leader of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Jack has control issues and trouble dealing with situations that he cannot fix. However, this attitude of solving problems through reason has given him the ability to function well in crisis. Sometimes, if he feels guilt or pain over a situation he can't fix himself, he will do anything he can to fix it, even borderlining on obsessive. Jack is, most of the time, in control of his life, emotions and situation he is in and is able to keep a cool head in tense situations. Jack is also the half brother of Claire Littleton, although neither of them is aware of this. Jack has formed very strong bonds with Kate and Juliet while he has been on the Island.

Default Terrible resolution!

Was anyone else disappointed by how Kate got off with only a slap on the wrist for all the bad things she'd done? I was really disappointed by the court case. Her mom doesn't show up so suddenly the whole case falls apart? I'm sorry, uh...hunh? The prosecutor loses one witness. What about witnesses from the bank she robbed? What about witnesses from the shootout at the hospital where her ex-boyfriend was killed? The defense uses Jack as a character witness and suddenly everybody is on her side? The prosecutors could have just as easily used her ex-boyfriend's widow and his baby as witnesses against Kate. It was just too easy. I felt really gyped.

Don't get me wrong; I DID want Kate to get away with it because I feel like she's paid for her crime already. But I didn't want her to get away with it like that! I hoped it wouldn't go to trial because it just wasn't believable to me that the real world would forgive her. The evidence was too much; they would have to convict her. There had been such a buildup among Lost fans for so long about "What's gonna happen to Kate when she's back in the real world??? How's she gonna deal with her past?" Such a big buildup for such a big letdown. The court case should have been more tense. Keep me on the edge of my seat...something, I don't know!

MY IDEAL RESOLUTION TO THE KATE DILEMMA:

I would have much rather that the cliffhanger be resolved by Kate stealing Joanna's (the woman who drowned on Day 6) identity and starting over. She had Joanna's passport, remember? That would be more in keeping with a Lost-style twist. It would have also been a nice reward for the die-hard Lost fans who have been watching closely since Season 1, who are obsessive and remember teeny details like that. You know, nerds like me.

And it would have given some cosmic meaning to the fact that the day of the drowning Jack chose to save Boone and not Joanna. His saving Boone instead would have meant saving Kate later--now THAT'S LOSTIFICATION! Who knows? Maybe Desmond could be shown forseeing it, wherever he is. The "Kate gets off scott free" resolution in "Eggtown" was almost as bad as a "and then I woke up and it was all a dream!" b.s. way to wrap things up in the kind of shows I expect a lot less from than Lost.

My "Joanna resolution" would have been a much more "literary" plot line and the irony would have been really in keeping with the style of Cuse and Lindelof's storytelling-->she has to begin a new life with a fake name in order to be her real self/the new and improved motherly Kate who is ready to be less emotionally guarded but who has to lie about her name...and her baby's name. Yeah, that wudda been good.

i like the way your mind works...

but, you think since the whole court thing was so unrealistic, is it possible that it wasn't even (dare i say it) real? maybe it was a dream sequence or something?

It would also redeem the producers, in my eyes, for their crappy resolution of Kate's "will she go to jail or won't she" story.

OR like Queenbee suggested, the court case is an event manipulated by DHARMA or Ben or someone/some group more "in the know" than our Losties. That would be cool. Even when they finally think they know what's going on, and even when they think they finally know more than anyone else (the judge and jury, the world at large, etc.) about what's going on, STILL they are in the dark and being manipulated. That is so evil it's eeeeeeeeeeeevil. And I like it that way! Yes I do.

that WOULD be evil. but that would also suggest that they specifically wanted our losties for something, not just to make sure they kept a secret but to observe them for something in the future.

I had always assumed if Kate made it back it'd be by using that other passport.

Once her mom showed up, I thought her Mom would "confess" to be the real killer of her ex-husband..... since she's dying anyway. That woulda got Kate off the hook.

Why did Kate not want her Mom to see the baby>???????
because her Mom would know its not hers.,,,,, possibly... I'm not sure.

But I do think the way it happend was a little weird. Personally the best thing would be if she went to Jail for 7 years then came back. I would've liked that alot. But it may of hurt the story. Maybe she could escape prision? The way it happend was the way it happend I guess.

I had a longer post but I accidently erased it.

if kate went to prison, then jack and sayid could've organized a breakout. A-team style.

I like that, A-team style. I'm surprised she agreed to come back without some other plan. She knew the Feds were looking for her and she doesn't seem like the kind of person who just accepts their fate (hence the running from the law all over the world). Maybe the baby had something to do with why she returns.
