Kate Austen

Kate Austen is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Kate is a fugitive, and was being pursued by Marshal Mars prior to the flight, for blowing up her father. Kate had been captured in Australia and was being escorted back to the United States before the crash. Kate has always seemed to run away from her past. Even on the Island, Kate exhibits a kind of evasive behavior to escape from her problems. Kate, when on the run, always had good intentions and never did any outright harm or killings to anybody, she believed she was doing things for the greater benefit of others. This view is prominently connected with her actions of her father's murder - she believed she was relieving her mother from his abusive presence. Kate is strong-willed, useful and clever, but dislikes being alone and is usually level-headed.

She has escaped from the captivity of the Others with Sawyer, and has formed an ambiguous romantic relationship with him, despite still being unsure about her feelings for Jack.

Ok, someone please fill me in: I didn't quite understand the finding that was finally taken. I got that Kate doesn't have to go to jail. She got 10 years of...what? My English skills weren't quite enough to understand the whole court procedure^^

Probation. That means that there watching her to make sure she doesn't do anything bad. Or try to leave the state or anything.

Also it probably has to do with her son also.

Also she probably has her own personal reasons.

We often hear/see something that seems to be of no importance only to find out later its significance. When the terms of Kate's probation included not leaving California for 10 years, her lawyer encouraged her to decline or bargain for a better deal. Kate took the deal, saying something like "I do ot want to leave CA anyway". This immediately struck me as significant, that accepting this condition would prove to be a big problem in the fututre. I have heard others comment along the lines of - it might present a problem if she decided to go back to the island. Getting back to the island would entail so much risk that violating probation would be the least of her worries.

I think there is more to it than that, but do not know what. So I am asking, if something develops that makes the "no travel" condition of great importance, what will that something be?
