Actually Michael is a perfect twist. If its someone we don't know then thats not a very good cliffhanger.

why would michael do that for ben? even if it was under duress (such as, do this for me or else i will tell the world you killed two people in cold blood). nah, i think it has to be someone that will be loyal to ben.

I don't think it's Michael either - Ben had too much personal information about that British girl. And remember when Juliette wanted to see her sister - Ben showed her very recent video footage of her sister, so that means Ben has plenty of contact with the outside world. I have a feeling that Ben has a bunch of contacts in the outside world, and he was able to plant someone on this mission...

That was Richard going off the island. Via the submarine. He even says his name.

I think whoever it is it will be someone we know. Because it was the big cliffhanger for the episode. So who else do we know that could possible be there? Michael.

Think outside of the box. There are plenty of reasons why Michael would do it. And do it good. It also explains Michaels return.

I just can't make sense out of Michael being the plant. They (the freighter people) seem to know who all the passengers on 815 were. I am sure they have names, pictures, and files on all the passengers. That is why the pilot was quick to notice Juliet was not one of the passengers of flight 815. How could Michael not be noticed. We have only been on the island for 93 days, Michael left with Walt on day 67 ...... a little more than 3 weeks ago. Doesn't seem like enough time to get yourself on a freighter unnoticed enough to be a mole. Not to mention where Walt is.......
It is LOST, so I guess anything is possible, but I just can't see that scenario. It would definitely surprise me.

As for Michael's return.... I think he will return out of guilt. Possibly to try to at least get pregnant Sun off the island. I would imagine Walt trying to convince him to do the right thing. Walt did not initially want to leave the island anyway..... didn't he destroy the first raft?

HIMSELF!

He's mastered this warp time, alternate time reality stuff. there's two of him!

but wait, they have the picture of what he looks like...oh, that won't work...ok maybe it's HIMSELF WITH A FACE LIFT!

AND WE LEARN IT ALL IN THE NEXT EPISODE! THAT MAKES PERFECT SENSE! IN THE 3RD EPISODE OF SEASON 4 WE LEARN THAT THERE IS MULTIPLE TIMELINES, TIME WARP, AND ALL SORTS OF TIME!

It was the cliffhanger therefore we will probably learn who it is in the next episode.

If it is Michael, which is likely, then probably after Michael and Walt finally reunite, Ben etal convince Michael of Walt's specialness and convince them of the need to protect the island from those guys on the freighter. they are supposedly sent off to return to civilization, but in actuality are sent toward the freighter to be "rescued".
Michael is obviously easily manipulated and controlled by the others and could be made into a mole. Walt, on the other hand, actually has some sense and might be working for Ben because he is convinced that Ben etal. are the good guys.
