Anybody notice that when Jack took the gun from Locke, and Locke started telling him, "You aren't going to kill me, Jack...any more than I was going to shoot you at the radio tower..." that Jack actually pulled the trigger?

Only the fact that the gun was not loaded kept Jack from becoming a murderer. Although, if you think about it, he killed the Federal Marshall after Sawyer botched up shooting him in the chest in the first season...and he euthanized Libby by overdosing her with a shot of heroin.

I think he's getting a little close to pyschotic when he gets thwarted, angry, or frustrated.

edit, added: Jack is no longer acting like a doctor. He didn't even check to see if Naomi was still alive. He just left her laying there with a knife in her back. Just like he didn't check or fix Locke's wound after Shannon shoots Locke (the bullet grazing Locke's head) after Boone's death in Season One.

Playing God and All Powerful Leader, rather than Doctor and Healer.

I was just thinking about this.. I think that is showing us how badly he really wants to go home.. He is going to kill John for trying to keep him there IMO

First he beat up Ben! Then he tried to kill Locke! Is he deliberately trying to kill all my favourite characters?! I'm begining to like him less and less, thank god the gun wasn't loaded!!
He does seem to be losing it a bit though, he just seems to want to beat up everyone, violence is not the answer Jack LOL

i agree that jack is definitely changing due to the stress of being on the island.
in the case of the marshall, that was also euthanasia (sp?) because he was in pain and going to die a slow death anyway. but i too am surprised jack did not check naomi's body. i think that allowed for the cliffhanger of her disappearing, because had jack checked her then he would know she was still alive. but like i said, the stress, is definitely showing cracks in the character of our dear doc.

I am wondering what happens to Jack once he gets back to civilization. Apparently at first is quite perky and normal, although he is having a screwdriver for breakfast. But then he ends up addicted to painkillers and about to jump off a bridge. I wonder how much time has passed between these two FF's. I think that people start contacting him like we see happening with Hurley. Creepy people asking about the island, ghosts visiting him giving him a guilt trip.

hey, maybe that's why jack tells the other doctor to go get his dad in the season 3 finale, because he sees his dad just like hurley sees charlie!

That would make a lot of sense pchee! Maybe his dad is also telling him he needs to go back like Charlie was telling Hurley. Being haunted by ghosts who tell you you've made a bad choice can make you go nuts, I guess.

I love Jack, and I do not think any amount of craziness under pressure will change that. I think that for 90 something days he has been the leader,doctor,good guy, and after three attempts to get off the island were destroyed by Locke he went a little crazy.

1. He has seen his dead Father, the person whose death he believes he is responsible.
2. He has delt with numerous deaths of which he couldn't help, and for Jack that is not acceptable.
3.He let the woman he loves play with his heart for what seemed like forever, and then choose a man that was his nemesis early in the show over him. Which brings us to Sarah, who also left and chose another man.

He has been running around the island trying to keep everybody safe and together, and dammit he is tired!
Cut him some slack! Locke has been attempting and most of the time has accomplished his goal in stopping all of Jack's plans. And I'm not saying that he wasn't right in trying to stop them, but Jack is concerned about getting people home, and he is doing what he thinks is right. In Jack's mind he is doing what is best for the group, and he is willing to do anything to accomplish that.
