Maybe Kate is shown without relatives to emphasize her connection to Aaron. There isn't much that cements their relationship prior to this shot--she hands him off like a football to Sun in this same episode.

Other than this, I too find it odd that no one (esp. Jack!!) invites her over to meet the folks.
