[quote=iamjohnlocke;46995]...I seem to recall several mythological characters punished in a similiar manner. I've got no clue on names but one guy had his guts eaten out by birds every day

POTPIES:
Prometheus. Later Heracles shot the vulture and saved him.

IAMJOHNLOCKE:
and another guy had to push a boulder up the side of a mountain, only to have it roll down the other side.

POTPIES:
Sisyphus

IAMJOHNLOCKE:
In fact, isn't Atlas supposedly holding the world, literally, on his shoulders?

POTPIES:
Yup. And there's Persephone who had to spend 6 months a year in Hades because she ate 6 pomegranate seeds while she was a captive there. Maybe that relates to Claire somehow? Just guessing, but we think she is alive and had to stay behind. Claire was kind of a hippy Earth goddess type. (Though, it was Sun who had the garden...) Even if Claire's dead, and had to stay behind.... I don't know.

IAMJOHNLOCKE:
....Locke just happened to venture into the trippy dream world Goodspeed was locked into...

POTPIES:
Well, it's interesting you say that. The name "Goodspeed" made me think of Hermes, the god symbolized by winged feet or winged sandals. I think someone here put that idea in my head. Flaneuse, maybe?

So many of you guys have make such interesting connections with the show! It keeps me thinking, definitely; the big reason why I like this site so much.
