ever since i watched this episode i cant help but think that the reason richard got mad when young locke picked the knife is because its the weapon locke is eventually going to kill jacob with. Maybe richard has went back in time and is testing young locke to see if he is going to follow the same path but when john picked the knife richard knew jacobs fate was enevitable!!!

The time travelling could also explain why we keep seeing richard the same age!
