They did say the knew that they cant kill each other. Might have something to do with being each others constant.
Might be possible that they cant kill each other because they are both counterparts in a larger setting. A setting wich does not allow them to kill each other or even make it impossible for them to kill each other. The same way Micheal isnt able to kill himself...
