Can he make these visions disappear by not believeing in them? Just something that happened twice in this episode that stood out to me.. Happened on and off island.. Any thoughts?

Hurley has experience with visions from his days of seeing "Dave". He has learned to turn off the things he sees that he knows are not real. I think this is one unique attribute of Hurley as opposed to others on the island. In a sense, his mind is more open to the island's (Jacob's?) form of communication.
