Since the key pad doesn't look this I don't think it had anything to do with hexadecimal. Good thought though.
But wouldn't they have built the computer and the keypad before they came up with the code? Unless they were planning to make a musical tune the code from the start, why would they put a 16 digit keypad in there? And where's the 0 (zero)? Although it does look cool having the leftside contain 4, 8, and 16.
