"Hey dbeach, I'm all for such immanent vitalism But the earlier debate on this thread is not so much about personification of the island on those terms- rather about assigning to it the godly position of some ultimate judge. Sure that the fate of LOSTies and even the fate of some people off the island but somewhat related to it, very much depend on the island (ex: FFs). From its environmental conditions to its geographical location, from its special powers to other mysteries, the island has a lot of qualities that determine the choices & lives of the character. I just don't think that it all comes down to some judgment matter though. Such a reading soon falls short of many complexities going on in the show and then all we're left with would be some blind fatalism. "

I too dont want the mystical Island to be the final purveyer of Truths
and I do agree with much of your comments

I think the Island is as alive as you or I
It is NOT a god to be worshipped

we all have power in choices that we make in life .. as do our LOSTies on the TV



for example "I never inhaled"
