Juliet was just doing what she had to, to stop Sun.
She could have just pulled Sun to the side and threatened to tell Jin if Sun didn't change her mind about going. But it was much more dramatic this way, ya know? And also it gave the writers the opportunity to have the scene with Benard and Jin fishing. I thought this was a very cool scene, and they couldn't have done it if Juilet hadn't blurted out Sun's little secret.
Also by the end of the episode Juliet convinced Sun that going to Locke's camp was wrong. And poor little rich girl Sun finally agreed.
