You've crystallized my thoughts perfectly.

Can a person be "mostly" dead (read it like Billy Crystal)? What I mean is if you subscribe to a multiple timeline thought and you believe that times are different ---> the island is in one time and the real world/freighter is in another time, if you die on the island (which is the past) but you are still alive in the real world time (which could be seen as the future) can you be "half alive" and still exist in one half of the time, and therefore somehow communicate with people, feel an odd need to return to the island (in the real world), etc.?
