So, does this mean that somehow the island brought him back to life, and then somehow he goes back with the rest and he is alive in the flash forward? Or, does it confirm the time travel theories and somehow he's travelling forward in time after he's dead? Or, does the island have good vibes for ghosts? I'm very confused . . .

I think the Lost powers that be have said that the Mobisodes, along with the Orchid film, can be taken as Lost gospel. So we can consider that scene true.

I basically believe in a parallel timeline/island in 1996-real time in early 2005 (now) & some time-travel sprinkled on the top thing going on and have this thought on the "ghosts" in the show.
Quote:
No one that we’ve seen on the island has actually left the island in the year 1996. So, while the losties are stuck in the year 1996, their counterparts have yet to play out their roles in the outside world in the years 1996–2004. Therefore, there aren’t “duplicates” of anyone on and off the island – UNTIL Desmond turns the failsafe key. At that point in time, the characters on the island have counterparts that are existing in the real world. Jack, once off the island, feels the need to go back because he knows that if he doesn’t beat DHARMA back to the island, then DHARMA will go back in time and kill everyone on the island in order to preserve the off-island timeline. If anyone on the island were to ever leave, and somehow use their “constant” to get off the island and into the real world, they could potentially do serious damage to the course of history. That is, if fate would allow them.
The ghosts and whispers are “fate’s way” of course correcting the universe and leading characters to certain actions – actions which will preserve a pre-determined timeline. Some of the ghost and whispers (Jack’s dad, Jacob, Eko’s brother, and Ben’s Mom) are actually “half dead” physical entities on the island (because they are still alive in the now separate "real" world timeline that was created when Desmond turned the failsafe key), and they can manifest to certain characters if their presence is needed to help course correct. Other entities (Walt, Kate’s Horse, Charlie, and Dave) are merely “visions” that only present themselves to help characters fulfill their fate.

Does this make sense? I hope it does.
