I think Hurley is one of the keys to Lost due to his luck. If you think about it his luck is the exact opposite from when he was off island. He had horrible luck since using the numbers to win that money. However, once he got on island he had great luck (this carried forward to the FF). Ping pong, horseshoes, horse, starting the Dharma Van, thwarting the Others beach take-over using the Dharma van (that was pure luck - it shouldn't have worked), getting on well with Libby, finding the food, connect four, controlling Sawyer to be the leader, and on and on and on till the break-a break-a dawn. I'm sure there are many more examples of Hurley's good luck taking control.

So, in answer to your question...I think Hurley will be a major player in the future Lost scenes. This is an awesome development as I think Hurley is one awesome dude. Go, go , gadget Hurley!
