1.) I am totally scratching my head over this too, Redglory! it's bugging me to no end! Why doesn't Desmond recognize Daniel when he sees him on the island? Why doesn't he look relieved and thrilled and grateful the second he lays eyes on Daniel because it means he wasn't insane 10 years before. You'd think that would be a major relief to him, right?
2.) Further, why isn't Daniel totally relieved to see Desmond on the island? He had found his constant! That's a big deal. It means he's not going to bleed from the nose and then die a horrible disorienting death, yet there is no look of extreme gratitude and relief on his face either. He and Desmond look at each other like they're total strangers.
3.) How did Desmond and Daniel screw things up for themselves and the Losties later on by meeting at Oxford earlier than they were supposed to?
**4.) Daniel explains that the constant has to be someone/something you really really care about. Ok, I get why Penny is Desmond's constant, but so then how can Desmond be Daniel's constant? They don't have any history or strong bond. What gives?
**5.) Lastly, Desmond asks Daniel if the constant can be a person. It seems like the constant can ONLY be a person, doesn't it? For one thing, seeing the constant age or not age would clue the person in to where they were in time. (Does the constant have gray hair or blonde pigtails?, etc.) Close relationships seem to provide the kind of emotional bond required of a constant. Locations change their appearance and pets don't generally live long enough, so what else could it be but a person?
I don't agree that the episode sucked, I'm just posting my burning questions.
