Woah!!! So, wait, are you saying that Widmore SAVED Desmond by telling him where to find Penny and then getting him on the island? That it was his plan all along to engineer events so that Desmond would be safe? Maybe Widmore is a good guy? The world is upside-down.

Maybe he knew Des needed to have the constant and Penny was it already.. He knows about the island and I am sure he is why he makes it to the island..
