Desmond David Hume
Desmond David Hume was the lone resident of the Swan at the time of the Flight 815 crash. He was discovered by Locke, Kate and Jack a month later after they had blown open Hatch. After his failed attempts to leave the Island, Desmond joined the camp of survivors. Following the destruction of the Swan, Desmond gained a mysterious ability to see flashes of the future, with which he predicted Charlie's imminent death.

"the hero twice over"
I was reading some posts on another LOsT message board and they were discussing this line in the season 3 finale.
MALE DOCTOR: Can I help you?
JACK: Just checking her chart.
MALE DOCTOR: I'm sorry I'm Doctor Hamill, Rob. The new chief of surgery, I don't think we've met yet.
JACK: Jack Shephard.
DR HAMILL: Doctor Shephard, the hero. Twice over.
People were debating why Dr. Hamill said "twice over"
Was he refering to the two people he saved from the car wreck. OR
Was he refering to two seperate events where Jack is a hero.
One being the car wreck and the other something to do with the island.
In other words people were taking this line as a hint that it was a flashforward.
I agree that it is entirely possible Dr. Hamill was making some reference to the island, but my opinion is that he was simply talking about saving two people.
What do you guys think?

I think that once the losties left the island, Jack was given the credit as the hero, who was the main reason for them getting rescued. So Dr. Hamil is most likely referring to Jack being the hero by getting the losties rescued and the most recent incident involving the car crash. Twice over obviously indicates a reference to something Jack did in the past as well as the most recent event involving the car wreck.
The only logical other thing that Jack could have done that would have received the attention of Doctor Hamil would be to appear on the news for something he did. Getting the other losties off the island seems like a pretty important bit of news, as did the car wreck incident when he pulled the people out of the burning car.
Also, Kate makes a later reference to this by saying to Jack something along the lines of "So, you're still pulling people out of burning wreckage." followed later then by a "we have to go back Kate."
Dr. Hamil could have only been referencing these two specific events when he said "the hero twice over." Unless, there is an event that has not yet been revealed, but I don't know why the writers would find it so important to put such a short line that many viewers skipped over. I know that lost has a way of taking little details that people have missed and incorporating them into later episodes (i.e paulo using the bathroom in one of the dharma stations) but I think that Dr. Hamil was just speaking the obvious when he said the hero twice over. Meaning the hero that got the losties off the island, and the hero that saved the people from the burning car.

Cool. That makes a lot of sense. I am just about to change my opinion.
The thing that kinda gets me though is this:
If hero twice over = key role in Flight 815 rescue and saving people from car wreck. How come Dr Hamil didn't recognize him??

It seems to remind us an awful lot of his father (the successful doctor who saved people's lives fell to alcohol etc). Its another interesting way to look at it too.

I don't know about that BabyYo.
It would seem to me that to make a reference like that Dr Hamill would have to know Jack and his father a lot better. The couple of scenes Dr Hamill had showed me that he really didn't know Jack all that well and probably knows his father even less.
It is a cool way to look at it though.
When I first watched the season finale I didn't have any idea it was a flash forward. So when I saw the scene with Dr Hamill I just assumed he was talking about saving two people.
After watching the scene again(this time knowing it is a flash forward)
I still think he was just talking about saving two people.
