Sorry i might be missing something here but why was charlie still prepared to die even after he knew that the boat wasnt penny's and that naomi had lied and that everyone probably wont be resued now, why did he still go through with it knowing that?

beasuce desmond said that if anything of what he saw changes then none of it will happen - if charlie didnt die then the rest of it wouldnt happen...

Desmond said they all get rescued. It will happen one way or another.

if something happens which wasn't in the vision, then then outcome might be changed.

I think it all depends on where Desmond is getting his visions. If they really are "memories" of the future...okay, then we can really change the future.

But if the visions are implanted, say by Jacob or the "spirit" of the island, then those visions of the future are really visions of a future which would only happen if Desmond and the people in it, follow it.

They would make it happen.

So...you would have the future (made from our spontaneous decisions as we move through Life) and you could have a planned future...sort of a self-fulfilling phophecy.

Something to think about, I guess. Hmmm...

Good point. Desmond said all Charlie had to do is swim to a flashing light and flick a switch, then he drowns. It didn't happen like that, so the outcome will have changed. Charlie believed it would still happen though I guess.

Yes. I think Charlie was still operating on throwing-the-switch-and-making-the-vision-come-true (meaning Claire and the baby being rescued by a helicopter).

But that, of course, hasn't happened...yet.

I think he has bought into the whole "fate" idea from Desmond. It seem to me as if he had time to leave the room and seal the door from the outside before the water flooded in. Then again I guess someone had to die, it was the finale after all.

i think he just wanted to die as a hero, he wanted to die to let claire off the island. He din't want to die any other way i guess. About knowing it was not penny's boat i think he throught that if he lived and told everyone that it was not penny's boat then the losties will never get resuded.

either its going to change or the saga continues from a different angle...
