Why is it THROUGH?? Looking glass is the name of the station,so why through? Is Charlie gonna make it through the porthole?
Those two women acted like "true believers",to question Ben was a sin,bigtime.. Makiel also..to not believe/act will bring the whole house of cards down.

I thought it was a take on the Lewis Carroll book. Lost has a lot of references to both Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland.

Or maybe it was because the grenade ripped through the Looking Glass.

It is through A looking glass. I think really it is a reference to the flash FORWARD. Do we see THE future or A future.

So the Spirit of Christmas Future asks Scrooge. Dickens is another author frequently referenced.

Besides the date of the episode is on or about Christmas eve.

In addition the title with THROUGH is probably a reference to 1 Corinthians 13:12:

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Lewis Carroll wrote a second book, a sequel to "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" entitled "Alice Through the Looking Glass (and what Alice found there)". Alice discovers that she is able to step through the Looking Glass is is back in Wonderland, only this time, instead of a card deck being the prominent game, Alice finds herself in a game of chess and starts the game as a pawn. Time is sort of running backwards through the book.

not sure what you are referring to here...the episode's title is "Through The Looking Glass" at least according to ABC's website; I think iTunes may have it as "a" instead of "the" but iTunes is wrong.

Wait, so "Through the looking glass" may have been what we were seeing with jack in a possible future. I was sure before the episode started that Charlie would actually go though the looking glass, Like Alice, and be off the island and everyone thinks he is dead. I was wrong huh? But, is Jack's 'Flash Forward' a glimpse through the glass.. hmm , I wonder.

I thought the title was hinting at what the looking glass station was capable of i.e. as in the alice in wonderland books, the other world is sitting right on the other side of the mirror all she has to do is pass through to find it. The jamming equipment is the mirror "looking glass", hiding the island. so when the jamming equipment was shut off It revealed the island. hence "through the looking glass"

I have a question: Does anyone know why the Station was named Looking Glass?

Most of the other Stations had names which ties in with the "style" or "context" of Dharma--kind of Far Eastern. Swan, Pearl, Arrow. Even Hydra, with the many-headed snake looked a little mythological.

The insides of Looking Glass looks as though it was used for underwater sealife or oceanographic research...that killer whale, or the shark, perhaps (although it was tatooed with a different insignia, not the Looking Glass one).

So...why, Looking Glass?
