Maybe the sub is not a long range sub, so it is only used for trips to different points on the main island, and to the Hydra island. One of the places the sub can dock is the Looking Glass (this much we definitely know, because the diagram of the Looking Glass station has a picture of the sub docking in the moonpool opening)

So then how do people get to the island, when they think they are coming on the sub? How about this: there is a doorway, like a teleport doorway, somewhere on the Looking Glass station, that allows instantaneous travel between the station and somewhere near Portland, Oregon. The tell you that you need to be knocked out for the trip, like when Richard told Juliet, but that is just to cover up the fact that they have a teleportation doorway. (or maybe you have to be knocked out for the teleport trip - maybe you'd hurl your guts out if you were awake for it) Whatever the reason, you are unconscious, they take you "Through the Looking Glass" to the Looking Glass station (so that's where the name comes from) and then put you on the sub and take you to the dock where you wake up, thinking you traveled on the sub the whole time.

How about that?
Logan you have crystallized my thoughts on this perfectly. Well done, good sir! Guess your theory is not so wild after all!

AAAHHHH Logan, i couldn't figure it out... I just knew I remembered it from somewhere.. awesome again.

Look Ben, it's getting harder and harder to tell myself that the island is just sitting, cloaked, in the middle of the pacific. Although that location would be "along the space/time continuim" I can't see that being realistic, show wise. If people got to the island by the sub, why never show it moving? Why "good vibrations" as the acess code to the Glass. It may e all one big diversion by the producers, but I am highly doubting it.

I am pretty sure young captain bunny killer and his dad had come via submarine. I have a question why is everyone so positive they actually need a "transporter"for the sub.

I don't think any of us are "positive" of anything...just throwing around speculations here. And we're not saying the transporter was for the sub itself...we're saying the sub is only short-range, and the people got to the Looking Glass via a freaky teleport doorway, and the sub just took them from there to the dock. (at least, that's what I'm saying) The people think they rode the sub the whole time, but actually didn't. (they were unconscious the whole time, like Juliet) We never saw the sub moving...just them on the dock walking away from the sub.

Ahhh... I get you now. The sub never needed to be transported, just the people. Then while their unconcious they strap them into the sub to make them feel as if they have traveled a long distance. That is a way more covert operation that way. I was thinking more along the lines of the philidelphia experiment ha ha. cool idea logan42.

The island is about the size of a peanut in Los Angeles. and visual navigation at sea is pretty much impossible ...

but you should also think about energies and vibrations. If the entire island and inhabitants were virbating at a higher frequency. There lies the possibility that they would appear to be cloaked to those people operating in the normal frequency of life. ( ie the serach boat or whatever )

good vibrations... by marky mark. good song.
