Ok guys, I know the everyone is saying that Jack said that he was neither friend nor family but I have listened to it 5 or 6 times and I swear he says either. This would change so much. Does anyone have close captioning or the transcript to confirm this?

If he said 'either' wouldn't that mean that he didn't know whether or not the person was friend or family? That wouldn't make sense to me.

i don't think "either" would make sense in the context of the sentence

Maybe they were so close that he could be considered freind or family.

To the original poster: When I first watched it, I thought he said either too, but someone shot me down when I came on here. I haven't gone back and watched it, but I'm glad someone else sees my line of thinking.

I went back and watched it 10 times. He definately says "either". Not once did I watch it and get the impression he said "neither".

It doesn't make as much sense as "niether" but what else could you expect from this show, lol.

Lostpedia has it as "neither" but lostpedia is not an official transcript or above mistakes. My opinion is that Jack did say neither. To me either doesn't make any sense at all.

I know. I know It didn't make much sence to me when I heard it. That's why I watched it over and over, before I said anything. I have been looking for transcripts too, and have yet to find anything offical. This is driving me a bit nuts. I'm going to look some more and if anyone finds out for sure, PLEASE let me know,

i read this post the other day and so when i watched the episode for the first time today i listened out and i really thought that he said 'either' which would be quite interesting.
maybe it was somebody really close to him, as herojack mentioned. im sure there are lots of things we are going to find out from between them getting rescued and jack visiting that funeral parlour so who knows!

but he did say either hehe

that's weird because when I watched it, it didn't even occur to me that he said anything other than "neither".

I know you guys are sure of what you heard, but "either" doesn't really make sense as an answer...
