Paulo

Paulo was one of the middle section survivors of Flight 815. Before the crash, he and Nikki Fernandez murdered Howard L. Zukerman and stole his diamonds. They spent most of their time on the island searching for these diamonds to the exclusion of almost everything else. A bite from a Medusa spider induced a death-like paralysis in Paulo. He subsequently died as a result of being buried alive while paralized.

I thought it said "either" but i'm gonna re-watch it soon and see if it was "neither". Would make more sense, unless its Claire in the casket.

wouldn't he have said "both" instead of either ... It does sound like either but I'm pretty sure he said neither and with the emotion in his voice it just sounds like either .

I had a friend watch it with me, and today I watched it again with my husband. I asked them to listen carefully to Jack's responce. Both of them heard "either." I still can't find a transcript. This is going to drive me crazy. I know I could be wrong. It just seems so odd that he would say that. Neither WOULD make more sence. I just can't hear Neither when I watch it.

This quote can make sense either way.

If he said "either" it indicates that he feels connected to the person as a friend and also views them as family because that is what they became in their time together on the island.

If he said "neither" then he did not view them as friend or family but still had a very strong connection to them from being on the island together. This could easily apply to: Ben, Locke, or Michael.

I think that Jack was mourning the loss of the person in the casket, not from an emotional loss point of view.....but, rather because he wants to go back to the island and fix things, but needs all of the original losties in order to do that. So, everyone that dies makes that more of an impossibility.

I think he said 'either' because no one else showed up for the funeral or whatever it was so it didn't really matter

Default Person in the casket was Rose

Jack was upset that in saving everyone and getting them back home things hadn't turned out so well not only for himself but the person in the casket.

Rose was cured from Cancer on the island but in going back home the cancer returned and killed her. Remember the funeral was in a black neighbourhood and the only black person we know Jack is really close to is Rose.

Ben also told Juliet that her sister had gone back into remission or something similar after being cured by the island and returning home.

Well that's my theory anyhow although the only odd thing is why nobdoy else turned up to the funeral, especially Bernard.

It is not the show who do the captions other companies are hired to write the captions, therefore, they do not always get every word correct as they are not reading off the script.

ok....
i am going to trust and take it as neither...not only do i hear the word neither, i read the word....
besides..."either" would be incorrect grammer, making no sense.

He said "neither." No one would say "either" in that situation, but "both." Let's not over complicate things here.
