Desmond David Hume
Desmond David Hume was the lone resident of the Swan at the time of the Flight 815 crash. He was discovered by Locke, Kate and Jack a month later after they had blown open Hatch. After his failed attempts to leave the Island, Desmond joined the camp of survivors. Following the destruction of the Swan, Desmond gained a mysterious ability to see flashes of the future, with which he predicted Charlie's imminent death.

Yeah, Carl did give a look like he might have some answers.
I had a crazy idea. Going along with the theory that Richard and the hostiles arrived on the island via the Black Rock. What if Carl was originally a hostile too. Maybe he was the cabin boy on the Black Rock and hasn't aged like Richard.
Or is that just too weird cause then Carl would have seen Alex grow up and now they are boyfriend/girlfriend......

Wow, what a thought Folie! There is definately time troubles with this island, why would that not work. If we are going to say Richard is really really old, why couldn't Carl be as well? (What was that Vampire Movie with Kirsten Dunst, where however old you were when you were bitten is how old you remained? What about some thing like that with the original inhabitants once they crashed the Black Rock on the island. Except that BEN has aged, and Alex has aged! Hmmmm)

Well, it could be even more specific - not that Richard and maybe Karl were survivors of the Black Rock, but that they were descendants of survivors. Maybe you have to be born on the Island to experience the (possible) extended life benefit.
So, Ben and Alex could age because they were not born or conceived there...and like Locke, Ben perhaps COULD be given the gift but he has displeased Jacob in some way and so it hasn't happened yet. He might be desperately trying to find some way to appease Jacob but have no idea what the right course of action is.
Because Locke can hear Jacob (maybe) he is more in tune, and because whatever he has done has earned the favor of the Island, he is able to walk there and with any luck is going to survive the pit - to get his ass thoroughly kicked by Jack.
Also, does anyone know why Karl looked so messed up in Greatest Hits? If Sawyer and Kate can look halfways decent now after the ordeals at Alcatraz and at the Barracks, had he gone somewhere new that we haven't seen, and did he learn something, was that why Alex asked him about her dad?

Frank: It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.
Jane: Goodyear?
Frank: No, the worst.

Interesting, Lizard - I didn't even notice Carl. Could he be "messed up" because he was running so fast through the jungle and branches lashed his face? So if you are born off-island you age, but if you are born on-island you don't age. But only babies concieved off-island live; babies concieved on-island die. This is my problem - I can't reconcile these facts in my mind! AAAArrrrggghhhh! How is this working?
So, Rousseau's husband was Robert, and we presume this is Alex's dad. Who is Robert going to turn out to be? Is Robert even his real name?

Excellent Darnzy - What was the deal with the rabbit, and why did Carl want it? In the transcript Carl actually says, "I thought you were bringing RABBIT." Was Alex just going to sneak Carl some food since Carl was in hiding?
Good point, Cablerunner - does Carl have super strength like Ethan did?
