Dr. Jack Shephard

Dr. Jack Shephard is often seen as the main character of the series. He is a spinal surgeon and the de facto leader of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Jack has control issues and trouble dealing with situations that he cannot fix. However, this attitude of solving problems through reason has given him the ability to function well in crisis. Sometimes, if he feels guilt or pain over a situation he can't fix himself, he will do anything he can to fix it, even borderlining on obsessive. Jack is, most of the time, in control of his life, emotions and situation he is in and is able to keep a cool head in tense situations. Jack is also the half brother of Claire Littleton, although neither of them is aware of this. Jack has formed very strong bonds with Kate and Juliet while he has been on the Island.

Default Was Desmond lying?

When Des told Charlie about his latest time he'd had a vision seeing Charlie die, he said that he died from drowning. He said that he went to a room with a blinking yellow light, flipped a switch, and drowned.

So my question is, did he forget to mention the women with guns? Did he leave it out on purpose? Was his vision wrong? How was that part not included? (Guess thats a lot of questions, really...)

What do we all think?

Welcome to the board cowboyy2j. I do not think that Desmond was lying to Charlie. I just think that his flash of the future when Charlie pushes the button and drowns has not occurred yet. He doesn't see all the events leading up to the death, only the events right at the time of his death.

I think that originally he did not see the two women in his flashes. But he tnen offered to switch with Charlie once he realized that they would be down there.

Interesting that this is the first Desmond Vision that WE did not get to see. We've been privvy to all the other flashes, but not this one, so there is no saying what Desmond really saw. And if this vision was similar to the one with Naomi - that were just pieces not like a video playing out - so maybe the girls just weren't in the pieces of that puzzle.

That's what I was thinking too we got to see glimps of his other visions but not this one. Could the vision Des had had more to do with himself since he saved Charlie's life when it was seen in his vision of Penny hanging from the tree. And Charlie always asking Des about his vision does Charlie thinks Des only sees vision of his death and nothing of nobody elses. one more week to go until we get to know more about what the deal is about this island history then the long summer wait for new season. Anything been heard if their going to do next season like this one, give a few then run out season. I myself like how this season was aired just not with the time period cause I only have 1 vcr and I like Medium and CSI:NY but then again Medium moves to Sunday in the fall lineup

I think the other visions Desmond could "see" becuase he had been there and was having kind of a Deja Vu "memory." My bet is that Desmond comes down and helps... hence his having seen it.

Flipping the switch might cause it to flood.

I don't think we saw his first few flashbacks.... Charlie drowning, him knowing where the bird was, lightning striking, Locke making his speach...etc...

I posted this over in theorys today.. this would not be the first time that Desmond kept info from the others about his flashes so nothing changes also!

I'm just happy he's alive, and also I don't think he would have lied if there was a way for Charlie to live. I think that his vision just hasn't happened yet. Like Des will go down there and save him, and when Charlie tries to escape, and swim back up it floods.

If he was willing to take Charlie's place why even tell Charlie? The wierd thing about his visions is that if he didn't have the vision of Jin, Charlie and Hurley with him 'camping' they would never have gone camping. If he didn't tell Charlie about this latest vision, he would've never volunteered. So his visions aren't really of stuff that is going to happen in the future. It is more like he a vision of a possibilty or something. Things that will only happen if Desmond does this and that. Time travel etc gives me a royal headache, all the paradoxes... ugh.

I absolutely think Desmond was lying to manipulate Charlie into going down into the hatch. He had plenty of time to think about, since he waited a long time to tell Charlie about the flash. He told Charlie the one thing that he knew would make him sacrifice himself (that doing so would get Claire rescued). As for why he offered to take his place, perhaps it was because Charlie didn't respond when he asked him how long he could really hold his breath, since he wasn't sure at that point if Charlie would make it. But for whatever reason, he did want Charlie to go down into that hatch, and he knew it wasn't flooded.
