desmond was lying to charlie about his vision, otherwise why did he go with him, there was no need for him to volenteer to go with charlie and then say to him at the last minute thet he would go instead of charlie. Did he say that out of kindness i don't think so if there is a chance of a helicoptor coming to rescue claire and the baby? he gave up the chance or rescue a little easily for my liking

DESMONDS flashes dont show everything that is going to happen in order...... picture it like the brainwash video. flashes of information. OR better yet

think of it like remembering your dreams the neext morning. you piece parts together... so as far as the desmond flashes went he knows that there s a room with women and a button and eventualy charlie dornwd in some water. maybe swimming back up to the top after he escapes the women... point is ... then later on the helicopter would come ... but not all right after the other...

its like on the movie NEXT... that is based off the phillip K dick novel...

I think he knew , but Charlie somehow manages to escape , turn off the blinking light and somehow will drown . But ANYTHING could change that outcome now and stop it all from happening . Like how could he succeed and result in the rescue of the Losties , we have 3 more seasons .....

Right, it's a possibility of the way it could happen. In the one with Charlie, Jin, and Hurley, he knew that since he (Desmond) was in the vision, he had to do this, that, and the other because if he didn't, it would turn out some other way.

Omit a link in the chain and the sequence of events is also changed.

i think desmond knew all about the code having to be the beach boys song and that mikhail would blow the window and it would flood the looking glass comms room. he knew that only charlie could do it and only way he could get charlie to do it is if he lied to him saying that if he did it, it would save claire and aaron.

but i rekon that since every other attempt to kill charlie has failed, he thought that he could save charlie again. desmond seemed to know straight away when he saw mikhails body was missing exaclty where he was, and what he was going to do (desmond didnt even look around to see if he was hiding - just ran straight for charlie. So really charlie didnt have to die (if he is dead) and desmonds plan backfired.

And does this mean that mikhail is dead (again)?

I know this thread is a little old, but I am going along with it anyway.

The possibility that Desmond is lying is very, very high. Desmond told Charlie that he saw Claire and Aaron getting onto a rescue helicopter; since Charlie's death that hasn't happened and Aaron has already been rescued. So if that vision alone was a lie, did Charlie have to die to save Claire?
Honestly, I believe that Desmond was tired of protecting Charlie and simply let him die.
