Dr. Juliet Burke

Dr. Juliet Burke (née Carlson) is a member of the Others. She seems unhappy with her allegiance (particularly, it seems, with Ben's position of authority), and lives at the Barracks. Juliet is a calm, intelligent woman with a background in medicine, but unhappy with her private life and will do anything to get off the Island. However, it seems Juliet has betrayed her people and joined the survivors in wanting off the island.

Default Dharma Pay

Correct me if I am mistaken, but did Roger say that he was making $30,000 for Dharma Custodial Work? Back in the 70's wouldn't that have been some pretty sweet dough? And Nurse Opal said he could apply for a different position - like what? Rake Man, or Wash-the-VW's Man?

I never saw a Dharma souvinier shop (to send "wish you were here" postcards back to the family); or a Dharma Bell or McDharma's to eat at; or a DharmaMart to purchase dolls and Tonka Trucks for the kids , so who knows if that money was "put in an account back in Oregon for you" *wink wink*, or if they could spend it.

Yeah, with the Utopian society Dharma was creating I would have thought that salaries wouldn't be a part of it. Everything was provided for you in exchange for you working and doing your part for the community. But I guess even in Utopia you need a 401k......

$30,000 in the 70's is like... wait let me calculate... carry the zero... ok, it's $250,000,000 today.. I ballparked it. I'm kind of thinking they got you to the island with promise of money, but you'll never see it. Rich guys stay rich for a reason.

I guess the Dharma Initiative would need to pay a pretty penny to get people to accept working on a remote island for a long period of time. And let's face it, where else can you work where you get attacked by hostiles, trapped by some high-frequency sonic fence, spooked by apparitions of dead people, and harassed by some type of smoke monster that may wind up sucking you into the ground or pounding you to death? It's those little perks that make the commitment so worth while!
