Boone Carlyle was a middle section survivor of Oceanic Flight 815 and was Shannon's stepbrother. He attempted to assume a semi-leadership role with the survivors but failed due to being rash and young, though he became Locke's apprentice when the two formed a close bond. Boone survived on the Island for 41 days before he died of injuries sustained in a fall whilst he tried to contact 'rescuers' from the drug smugglers' plane. According to Locke, Boone was a sacrifice the Island demanded.

Why the heck do the Others keep moving their camp all over the place? and why are they carrying around so much stuff? They seem to be wandering around day-to-day. Why does Ben have to have 50 books, a desk, chairs, etc. Don't they have a truck or more VW vans to carry all of this stuff around. They are wandering around lugging all of this junk like a bunch of gypsies. Why not just stay at the barracks and play pinball while they wait to attack the Losties? or at least pack a light backpack for the day so you can actually cover some ground?
If I was the guy who had to pack up all of that stuff each day I would be yanked off. By the time they get one camp setup, they tear it down and move another quarter mile....at least that is how it seems.
Kinda reminds me of an army moving around. An army company carries alot of stuff with them and they have to be able to pack up and move the whole shabanga-bang as the mission dictates. At least that is what I got out of it. But yeah the last campsite with the ancient ruins was cool. I was kinda hoping they would move to the four toed foot campsite.
If the others are the original natives/hostiles of the island, then it makes sense. They may have had to develop a nomadic lifestyle when Dharma invaded their world. If because of the island properties they have developed super immune systems and do not age normally....as Richards non aging suggests, then they would have been perfect candidates for experimentation by Dharma Initiative. They might have been captured against their will, and were constantly moving camp so they would not be sitting ducks. Also, Ben said that Jacob shunned technology. If the others are of his thinking, they resent the technology that Dharma brought to the island that exists in the hatches and the barracks. They only use it when necessary.
So Ben and his dad were recruited to the island by the Dharma people, and then Ben decided to join the Hostiles after seeing his mom and meeting Richard, Ben is the only real Dharma person left, I wonder if the Off-island Dharma people in charge - (there must be someone who sends the food) - Do they know about the "purge" or did the hostiles just kind of move in and take the place of the Original Dharma-ists?? Did they bring Kelvin and later Desmond there too??
The video's suggest that the station were unaware of each other's presence. Perhaps recuitment and maintainance of those site were independent from the barracks.

Well, they had to know something about the Stations. The barracks housed the people that worked at the stations. And Ben's dad wore a Swan logo on his uniform. (see attached screencap). Also when Roger is arguing with Horace, who has an Arrow logo on his uniform, he says he runs into a gun battle while coming back from the Flame. And when Ben and Roger are loading the van Roger tells Ben that all they have to do is run some some supplies to the Pearl station.
The details about what takes place in the various stations was probably known only to the participants, but their existance seems to be common knowledge.
Was Mikhail Dharma? Also I think I read somewhere (or podcast) that Ben's group was kind of unaware of the Swan station. Does anyone else remember that?
