Could Jacob be the metaphorical father that almost all the Losties have to make peace with?

You mean like a God figure?

I mean that would go with the whole heaven/hell/purgatory theory, but I don't think its that simple. Jacob seems to be trapped just as bad as the losties. I think he needs Locke's help just as much as Locke may need his.

Really well God asked Moses for help. I mean sometimes a omnipotent figure does need a lesser being to help him.

Usually God "asks" for help for the person's benefit, not for His.

But I don't think Jacob is God, or god. I'm beginning to suspect Richard is actually the man behind the curtain.
