from Lostpedia, these are supposed to be the translations for what Naomi was saying...pretty much what Patchy was saying, except for the last one, which I was assuming he was lying about...

* "Me estoy muriendo" is Spanish for "I am dying" (from the captions)
* "Aiutami sto morendo" is Italian for "Help me I'm dying" (from the captions; partially incorrect, but comprehensible)
* She mutters in an "asian language" (from the captions) which Jin claims is Chinese, not Korean
* After Mikhail and Desmond treat Naomi's wound, she says something in Portuguese not spelled out in the captions. It is not "Thank you" as Mikhail claims. Instead, it sounds like "Eu não estou só" which is Portuguese (spoken with a Brazilian accent) for "I am not alone."

Thanks for posting the translations. I love the way this show conveys things without using words. For instance, when Mikhail translated the words Naomi spoke as "thank you" we (the viewers) knew it was a lie. The way she spoke the words and the eye contact he made with her told us that she did not say the words he attributed to her. That is great storytelling.

Yea I was wondering what she said to the patch guy. I wonder why she said things in different languages. Was she that confused in her dying state?

Yea I have a feeling that Patchy uses the truth to get out of tough spots so there is a little bit of trust in what he says.. Then he said you wouldn't respect me if I didn't try when he took the phone.. I think Patchy is a good character to get info from..

So does everyone assume Patchy saw the flare and came to investigate, not expecting to find a bunch of Losties or... he just happened upon them? I thought it was odd that he was running through the jungle instead of sneaking.

I suspect she is one of Penny's operatives and, like the Portuguese fellas from Ice Station Zero at the end of S2, they are probably very multi-faceted, including knowing many languages.

That plus the delerium...you get a scramble of languages. I think the idea was to show that Naomi is no simple parachutist, but perhaps much more talented in many ways...or are we to think that maybe she is actually DHARMA or an Other?

Yeah this is what I thought. also makes me think that is why she had the Flare in the first place, to signal someone to meet up with. Of course could be just standard survival stuff that someone like her carries on missions or whatever. One way or another it seems that Patchy was aware of her arrival and was running to the flare. IMO

speaking different languages seems like a skill that a spy/secret agent type would have. she kinda spoke language she thought the one closest to her would understand. English to Des, itallian to.... well not sure about that one, Chinese to Jin, Spanish to Hurley or maybe just her native language. but yeah more than anything else her ability to speak differnent languages just makes her character all the more interesting

Patchy may have heard the chopper too and was looking for it before anyone else could find it, and took the flare as a signal from a survivor, so that's why he was running and was so suprised to see the 815'rs.
Patchy is now free and can look for the companion, if we are to believe Naomi said she wasn't alone, that would explain the small splash in the ocean last week.

kind of strange someone could get THAT multi-lingual when that close to death under heavy injury. I mean she spoke what 4-5 languages?

The way he said he wanted to walk away as if he'd never been there kinda sounded like he didn't want even The Others to know he was still alive? He sorta seemed to be running through the jungle kinda like Desmond was after the hatch blew..
