Johnathan "John" Locke

Johnathan "John" Locke is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. His paralysis was immediately healed upon crashing on the Island, which has ultimately led him to believe he has some sort of special connection to the Island. He is sometimes shown in antithesis to Benjamin Linus, sharing several traits including the ability to commune with Jacob. Seen as antithetical to Jack Shephard, he and Jack are philosophical opposites and used to share leadership among the survivors, but now seems to be creating his own agenda for his actions on the Island and has broken off from the survivors.

Default Catch 22 - Could be a dilemma!

Just for fun to pass the time until next Wednesday here's some conversation starters:
- What is a Catch 22? It's a no-win situation, a double bind, or even self-contradictory circular kind of logic.

So what's going to be our Catch 22 next week? Will it involve Juliet and her apparent loyalty to Ben vs. Jack knowing she wants nothing more than to go home. OR - Jack being in trouble for ignoring Kate and liking Juliet. OR - In order to keep Jin Sun can't divulge she had an affair vs. saving her baby's life and let Juliet inject her. OR - what do you think????!!!!

It seemed from the preview that next weeks episode will be centering on Desmond again. So, I have a feeling it will have to do with him and his ability. But, all the situations you mentioned are definitely in the no-win situation realm.

I think he will find himself in a situation where he has two choices: he can either alter the future events that he has seen, or he can just stand by and let it happen. One choice ould benefit Desmondo, whilst the other would benefit someone else.

Right DieAlone - I've even read the book, and I know they show the Portuguese version in the promo (I have a friend who speaks portuguese and she tells me anytime she sees anything portuguese). But in the book, the catch22 came to represent a no-win kind of situation - an term we now use in our society at large, like from the book The Odyessy we now use the term "caught between a rock and a hard place" (scylla and charybdis - spelling might be wrong on those). Titles obviously have something to do with events or people in the show and are there to pique our interest, otherwise they would title them episode one, episode two, episode three, episode four....

"Like Mrs Hawking, Desmond is coming to the realization that though he can see events to come, his changing them are causing more damage then if he had let the situation run it's course."

It's nice to see someone citing their source, CableRunner - lol!
Desmond can keep saving a man's life (which I am sure Penny would want him to do) but would keep him from Penelope, (remember she tells him he's a good man); or he can not save his life, and by doing something shameful, keep the picture on the puzzle box (see promo for next week) the same and be with Penelope, but run the risk of making her ashamed of him.

I agree,I think that is along the lines of the story for next week.

I agree.

I think the Catch 22 title is refering to Desmondo (as Wander aptly nicknamed him) Desmond's actions are self defeating. He can never acheive his goal and just ends up running around in circles.

Catch 22 is referring to Jack and Ben. (Just my two cents) In the preview I just saw it showed Ben promising Jack “no one will get hurt”. I bet Jack has to make a "catch 22" decision by trusting Ben to do something to one of the Losties.

You guys stop with the time traveling self course correcting B/S. The producers already said Desmond did not go back in time and he can't change the outcome of anything. I know it makes a great theory but the producers shut it down a while back.
