Kate Austen
Kate Austen is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Kate is a fugitive, and was being pursued by Marshal Mars prior to the flight, for blowing up her father. Kate had been captured in Australia and was being escorted back to the United States before the crash. Kate has always seemed to run away from her past. Even on the Island, Kate exhibits a kind of evasive behavior to escape from her problems. Kate, when on the run, always had good intentions and never did any outright harm or killings to anybody, she believed she was doing things for the greater benefit of others. This view is prominently connected with her actions of her father's murder - she believed she was relieving her mother from his abusive presence. Kate is strong-willed, useful and clever, but dislikes being alone and is usually level-headed.
She has escaped from the captivity of the Others with Sawyer, and has formed an ambiguous romantic relationship with him, despite still being unsure about her feelings for Jack.

I'm pretty sure your paranoya is running away with you. The sub clearly is not a prop, but a working submarine, no question. No-one ever said the sub was the only way off the island, probably just a bit easier for the others to go back and forth as it is submerged so won't draw any attention. They could use boats if they wanted.

Given that the island is impossible to find, it's safe to assume there's some type of "portal" (I know this sounds a bit crazy) or leg of the journey where you are passing from the outside world to the island. Given that it's a special place, it's not unreasonable to assume the journey there isn't exactly a normal journey.

Yeah after hearing Ethan describe the sub journey I thought something like this. ^^
Also when thinking about Flight 815's mid-air breakup. Maybe they passed through something too. Even Desmonds ship wreak may have been more than just bad weather.
Passing through what ever barrier they have too may just be more survivable under water in a sub.

I think the sub being a fake just causes too many complications.
If it were a fake......
What was really going to happen to Jack and Juliet?
Could Ben be so sure Locke wouldn't see that it was fake? or If Locke did see it was fake could Ben leave it to chance that Locke would blow it anyway?
How could Ben be sure that Locke wouldn't tell Jack it was fake?
If it is a fake, how many others know it? Ethan, Richard, two unknown crew members. How do you ensure that the secret is kept in a community?
Ben is supposed to be a master at manipulation. Ben wanted Locke to destroy the sub and force Jack and Juliet to stay on the island without breaking his word to them. A fake sub just leaves to many chances that Ben would be caught in his deception. and con men don't take chances.

I Think Henry Had something up his sleeve. He obviously hasnt let her leave yet, and furthermore thinks there is a prego woman on the Losties they can get to so he wouldnt let her leave then. no chance.

Henry Basically called locke out on it/suggested he do it. which if he was already going to use his own ruse, is a much better idea. ESPECIALLY if it is a FAKE. We have no evidence of its actual use.

Becuase for Locke to take Jacks Place infiltrating the others... he has to maintain his stern is all good Locke mentality. Thats also why he was the way he was with kate. He was protecting her. he didnt know ben told juliet to do what she did that we know of.

He knew there werent any chances to be take. How else would he be able to get to whatever he needs that is in the Losties camp without Jack Kate juliet combo... by now the Losties know eachother. any noob with noone to vouch for is an OTHER.
So if he lets them leave the island he has NO way of getting what he wants ( from the Losties... maybe the prego Sun) without bloodshed. So he goes to great great lengths to bring jack and juliet to a "trusting" relationship....
like Frogmeister said. shes a cold fish... hard to keep hold of...

I thought of another problem with the possibility of the sub being fake. In eppy 3-04 EMFH Ben busts in on Juliet and Jack in the aquarium cell and says:
Quote:
|
The sub is back. We have a situation. So come with me now.
|
This is when Colleen was shot by Sun on Desmond's boat. The sub was given as the explanation for how the others got on Des's boat without Jin and Sayid seeing them.
So if the sub is fake and all this is just a ruse, then.... damn. That just doesn't add up IMO.
