Mr. Eko
Eko, also known as Mr. Eko or Father Tunde, was one of the tail section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. He was a notorious war lord and drug smuggler in Nigeria before his brother Yemi's death. To get out of his country he hastily became a priest, but after Yemi's death, he seemed to take his role more seriously. Eko survived on the Island for 72 days before he was killed by the Monster.

I'm pretty sure there's more to life than being really, really good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is. Oh, *Snap!* the Smoke Monster, I'd tell Ben Linus the same thing I told reporters about Magnum, "You gotta tame the beast before you let it out of its cage."

In the last podcast D&C discuss the question of why smokey couldn't go over the sonic fence. Here is some of what they said.
The sonic barrier was designed to repel smokey.
Even things that are smart have weaknesses.
Can it get vertical and detatch itself from the ground?
So it seems they are at least eluding to the fact that it has some intelligence. You be the judge, but after listening to the podcast I got the impression that D&C were saying that smokey just cant get over the fence. It was designed to keep smokey out and it works.
I still think it is lame.
