White Light / Black Smoke?

So now at least two people have seen Smokey as White Light and not Black Smoke. Locke saw it as white light, but Mr. Eko said "that is not what I saw." Kate had seen the black smoke before when she was running with Locke and Jack. Now Juliet has seen it as flashes of white light, but the second time she saw it at the sonic fence did she see it as the Black Smoke? It seems that THEY (being the Others, are aware of it - are they aware of it as the Black Smoke?) know that they know the smokey doesn't like the sonic fence, but who does?

Strange things.... I thought the flashes were like the flashes of pictures Eko saw in Smokey. But that would be cool if she saw the white light that Locke says he saw. Then again who really knows what Locke saw.

Ok heres what I think. The Others have no frikin idea what the Smoke monster is. It roams around and when it finds its target, it scans them. What i mean is it studies their thoughts and memories. I don't know why but i think every one sees it as blakc smoke it just scanned Juliet so she was hit with the flashes.

I agree, every body sees it as black smoke, I don't remember Locke saying anything about white light. The flashes are exactly what happened to Eko, it was scanning his thoughts, then it left. It returned and killed him as Yemi, because it now had that information. I predict Juillette will either see or be killed by someone from her past, like her sister or exhusband.

Pretty cool thought though if this is correct that the writers had Eko's death planned out in his first flashback episode.

...in "The Cost of Living", Locke tells Mr. Eko of this experience, and says that when he saw the Monster he saw a beautiful bright light. Eko says that this is not what he saw.

I think its pretty lame that Smokey can’t float over the sonic fence. Smokey clearly can elevate waaaaaaaaay higher then the fence but yet he doesn’t. I wish the producers wouldn’t have incorporated the fence as being a blockade against Smokey. I thought that was pretty lame!

I personally thought it was cool, to have some defense against Smokey, and if Juliette is correct, and the Others don't know what the heck he is, then we have a new bag of issues. However, the sound and flashing of Smokey sounded to me like an MRI machine, which makes sense, a very advanced MRI that not only scans the brain, but the thoughts as well. The first word in MRI is magnetic, so it definately makes sense.
Looking at Kate and Juliette stranded out there, it's almost as if the Others were saying, 'ok, these two, can't be saved, and can't be helped, so let's put them in Smokey's yard and see how he deals with them'
Locke turning wholely to the Others was a bit of a suprise, but not much, I just would like to see how he dealt with Cooper after their 'meeting'.

Thats along the same lines I was thinking. You can also think of the bright white light after a picture is taken and you are stunned for a minute from the flash. What kind of thoughts do you think its most interested in. Maybe fear? I remember when Ecko saw smokey a while ago he backed away from him b/c he wasn't afraid. Its like it tries to zone in on your worst fear and have it play out before you before you die. Which could be an interesting theory.

unfortunately Juliet cannont be trusted to tell the truth. I mean she first lied to Kate by asking what is that thing durning their first encounter with it. But then at the fence she admits that she is aware of it and completely trusts the fence to protect her as if she has seen it repel smokey before.
so who is to say she doesn't know more about it.

Do you think Juliet has actually seen Smokey before? She seemed to have a genuine look of fear on her face when her and Kate were hiding. I felt like when she turned on the gate, it was more her thinking on her feet and doing something out of protection. I know she has been lying, but its hard to draw the line about when she's actually telling the truth. She is still a difficult one to read.
