James Ford
James Ford, better known by the alias of "Sawyer", is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Sawyer's early life was ravaged by the con man who ultimately claimed both his parent's lives through conning them, instantly orphaning him. As a child, he wrote a letter to this con man, hoping to deliver it to him in person one day. Sawyer set out to search for him, presumably after he left school, however he, himself, ultimately became a con man and became the man he was hunting, became Sawyer. Revenge plays a big part in Sawyer's life, starting with the real Sawyer. On the island, Sawyer has often used his abilities to con people to get his wishes, and keeps a stash of useful items with him. However, after the death of the real Sawyer, he has begun to rethink his ways and is slowly turning into a leader for the survivors.
He escaped from the captivity of the Others with Kate, and has formed a relationship with her.

I watched the first EP of Season 1 again, Jack goes to see Boone trying to save Rose by blowing air into her mouth. Boone suggests to get a pen to stick in her throught while Jack carrys on trying to save Rose. Jack replies ''Yeah, good idea you go get me a pen.'' so he does, but the camera focuses on Jack breathing air into Rose's mouth. So we can't tell who Boone actually asked a pen for.

no, Nikki and Paulo were not part of the show during seasons 1 and 2. They were added to the cast as part of season 3, and then inserted into the storyline, as if they've always been there. So the footage of them being in these scenes we've seen before has either been digitally manipulated to have them added, or been re-filmed to have them in it. I believe a little of both happened, because I doubt they'd re-film the whole crash scene again, but some of the scenes were obviously newly filmed, like when they interact with Kate talking about the key for the gun case, for example. (and parts of the crash scene were new, like interacting with a pen-searching-Boone)

There have been critiques of the show that question the writers/producers about the background losties. Listening to the Expose podcast I got the impression that Nikki and Paulo were largely the result of addressing these questions. But it got a lot of mixed reactions, or actually mostly bad reactions. It seemed to kinda go down like this:
viewers ask hey there are supposed to be like 40 survivors how come you only ever show about 10 of them doing anything.
the show responds with Nikki and Paulo
many viewers say "who hell are these guys and why should I care"
the writers/producers are like ?? ok we attempted to give some incite on what some of the other surviors are doing and make it entertaining/interesting to watch. But the same people that complained about not showing background characters now are complaining about Nikki and Paulo. So the writers/producers are like WTF try to give people what they ask for and they don't like.
This is just my opinion and I am in no way pointing fingers at anyone here.
