Is it just me, or did this episode completely screw with the established time line?

Assuming that the first time Paulo entered the Pearl station to hide the diamonds, the Boone-killing plane hadn't fallen on top of the entryway yet.... how exactly were Ben and Juliet able to watch Jack on the monitor screen for the Swan, considering that our heroes weren't even in the Swan until after the plane had fallen?

Methinks the writers were in too much of a hurry to get to the payoff for this episode and didn't think about the consequences of having Ben and Juliet put in an appearance.

I think the plane had fallen already when Paulo was watching Ben and Juliet from the bathroom...Ben says something like "have Tom cover the hatch with the plane" which implies it has already fallen, but it didn't originally fall on the Pearl hatch...the Others moved it a little to cover the hatch, and Locke and Eko have to push it later to find the Pearl.

see, logan, I listened several times to the ben and Juliette conversation, and after a while, i swear he said "Have them cover it at the flame" I know it doesn't make a lot of sense, unless ben had used a different entrance.

But you're right, Mistress, Paulo is hiding the diamonds in season 1, when Jack didn't know about the hatch. Good catch.

there's no way the producers/writers would make that much of a goof, knowing how much we analyze everything...see this timeline on Lostpedia...

read through to find the relevant parts about the Pearl and the drug plane. It confirms the plane falls first (day 41) then Paulo overhears Ben and Juliet (day 49) then Eko and Locke uncover the Pearl hatch (day 65) So the Others must have pushed the plane over the Pearl hatch.

Day 41 boone climbs up into beechcraft causing it to fall but doesn't land on pearl hatch lands besided it.

Day 44 locke and company blow open the Swan hatch

Day 49 paulo hides diamond dolls in pearl station toilet
while there Ben and juliet come in and Ben also mentions that the hatch should be closed and that Tom should return and cover it with the plane


Day 65 locke and eko visit the pearl and push the plane off the hatch entrance

Day 72 locke, sayid, nikki, paulo and desmond visit pearl station and Paulo recovers the diamonds
