Okay - so I totally missed it the first time I watched. Is Boone the one that we are to assume is gay because of the "flirting with other guys" comment that Shannon makes to him in the airport?

I was wondering about that...I think some of us assumed it was going to be Tom, but he wasn't in the episode. So if we are to believe the rumors that the gay character was supposed to be revealed in this episode, then unless I missed something, it seems it would have to be Boone. Anyone else got any other ideas?

I just thought it was sibling argument comment to make him mad. I don't think he is gay. I mean - he slept with his sister, but that doesn't make him gay...

Okay - so I was doing some reading and, well, I still don't know. Some say it was just a dig at her brother because she thought he wasn't doing enough to get them on the plane, like tsimer said. Some one else pointed out that he, of course, slept with Shannon, and supposedly someone named Nicole, or Nikki ( is that right?) So that would make him at least bi-sexual. Anyway, I was with you Logan that I thought it was going to be Tom.

There's very little evidence (make that next to ZERO evidence) that either Tom or Boone or gay. Tom said Kate wasn't his type. That coulda been because she's like half his age perhaps? And Shannon was just taking the piss out of Boone.

Shannon complains about Boone "flirting with random guys." During a podcast and an interview, the producers hinted that a character might be revealed as gay this episode. This matches the concept of the word "exposé" as well, as Boone was outed, exposed in the episode.

However, the comment could have simply been written as a fleeting insult from Shannon with no actual serious relevance. Furthermore, it should be noted that Boone once had sex with Shannon, as well as possibly dated a girl named Nicole. Thus, if Boone is attracted to men, he would be a bisexual character as opposed to gay character.

Ian Somerhalder also played Paul Denton, a bi-sexual character, in the movie version of Bret Easton Ellis' 'The Rules of Attraction'.

I totally agree we need something more substantial, and frankly I wouldn't be thinking about gay or straight at all with regards to the characters. It hadn't even crossed my mind until the producers brought it up in a podcast...so they planted the seed...

Well, when Paulo was hiding his jewels and Ben and Juliette came in, Juliette said that Tom had been in the pearl a few days earlier. I think it's because he has a thing for Jack. he had an 'uncomfy' moment with him during ben's surgery. "I'm Tom, by the way", Jack just ignores the comment. I believe Tom was spying on Jack, like a webcam, you know, watching him wash dishes, push buttons, all sensual things no doubt.
Boone may be gay, but I believe Tom IS gay. If I'm not mistaken, he did a happy dance when Locke blew up the sub.

is it technically incest if they aren't blood related? Boone and Shannon were step-brother and -sister; Boone's mother married Shannon's father, so they were only related by marriage. Still a little weird, I guess, if they grew up like brother and sister.
