Bernard Nadler
Bernard Nadler is a tail section survivor of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 and the husband of Rose. He is the only tail section survivor that has not been killed, captured, or assimilated in to the Others. He wasn't seated in the tail section, and was only there when the plane crashed because he was using the bathroom then. Bernard cares very much for Rose and feels a need to fix things, like her cancer, not dissimilar to Jack.

I think Carlton Cuse resently said that neither Paulo or Boone were gay.

Again - in a recent interview with Carlton Cuse he said that neither Paulo or Boone were gay. I'm leaning toward Peg 4x4's idea it was Ben... during the last episode after Juliet slaps the glass out of Ben's hand, she begins to cry and lays her head on Ben's chest and he doesn't even put an arm around her? She's a pretty girl, she's a sad pretty girl, she's a sad pretty girl stranded with a limited number of guys on an island, she's a sad pretty girl stranded with a limited number of guys on the island and Ben has lived his WHOLE life on the island - not many choices as far as romance is concerned. I would think Ben would have jumped at the chance to at least hold her for a moment.
Plus, Lost in Hazard's suggestion just gives more credence to the argument that that is how Shannon likes to goad her brother, she uses her sexuality to manipulate men, and when they don't respond, she ridicules them by questioning their manhood.

Good points made. and pretty convincing. I had a different take on that scene though. I thought it just highlighted his inability to show compassion for anyone. I hope he is not gay, it seems kinda cliche to me. Oh the big bad guy is also a big gay guy. But who knows. Richard seems to be his right hand man. Maybe that extends beyond just a professional relationship.
My vote is still for Tom. I think his remark to Kate about her not being his type is just the kind of clue the Lost writers like to throw out. A typical remark that anyone might say in a simular situtation, but with a hidden meaning that is actually not hidden at all so it is often over looked or cast aside as being to obvious.

This whole thing started when it was revealed in the October 30, 2006 podcast that we may find out a character is gay.
I agree with you though, with everything else going on I would think someone's sexual preference would be the least of anyone's worries.
But perhaps it ties in some how to the history of the original inhabitants of the island. The four toed statue reminded me of something from Greek or Roman times and there was a lot of homosexual relationships during that time period.
