Well it could also mean the exact oposite; charlie has done some bad things on the island.. therefore the Island tries to kill him; But if makes ammends he might still be saved?

BabyYo , I couldn't agree more . Charlie is sincerely sorry for his actions towards Sun , unlike Locke who continues to stop anything and everything that may change his walking again no matter how it affects those around him . I hope neither of them die though , they both bring a lot to the mix ....
and LOST , that could be , but I wonder if making things right , does it save you or allow you to die . Remember Shannon , once she became a better person she died and I kind of see that trend with Ana Lucia etc... just wondering .... and remember the list , something about who is good or bad ....

yea the shannon thing killed me, i loved her and loved her growth as a person. I really hope they don't do the same to Charlie. I have a feeling Desmond will find a way to throw it off, either by sacrificing himself or doing some kind of selfless act to throw it off. or maybe even claire will be able to stop it. you never know, everyone has such great potential on the isalnd.

Even if it was not religiously connected, Charlie may have some reason to make amends. He dealt with his brother's drug abuse, so I'm sure Charlie is aware of any number of 12 step programs. One of the steps is to apologize to those you have wronged and seek their forgiveness.

Charlie was still trying to overcome his addiction when he kidnapped Sun. I don't think many know of his addiction problems, unless Claire and a couple of others have made it common knowledge.

It's still a spiritual act regardless of whether it is religious in nature.

Just a thought.

The reason I brought up the confession is that Charlie was Catholic in his flashbacks. That is a facet of his make-up, how he views things, it is the part of him that is the "man of faith" (he was proud to tell Eko he had been an altar boy). Are you a man of faith or a man of science is a theme of the show, faith and science not neccessarily being strictly and formally defined. It's like Stewie said, it is a spiritual gesture, motivated, perhaps, by that religious element that is a part of Charlie's upbringing.

WHICH
would lead to an interesting endevour... who have beend declared "men of faith" and who have been declared "men of science" ~and~ can you change from one to another?

Totally LOST, after all the deaths we were forewarned about, wouldn't it be a kick in the head if Charlie's atonement, genuine atonement, saved his life. Eko had the chance to atone to Smokey and instead chose to be unrepentant - and where is he now?

The whole Charlie going to die thing could be a smokescreen.

Good Point Lizard! Was Locke repentant? He had seen the smoke monster, but he saw it as a bright light, not the dark cloud that Eko saw. Who else has seen smokey in smoke form... Locke (while hanging halfway down that hatch thing) asked Jack if he had seen it and Jack answered yes... but Jack has yet to be confronted by the Smoke monster. Maybe there is something to being a penitent soul vs. an unrepentant.

There just may be something to this. It seems to match up with the others classifing people as good and bad.

But I am still not sure how smokey and the others are connected if they are connected at all.
