Ben & The Outer World

A thought came to my mind. The Others new about The Swan (Also Ben was in the swan, the ID of Henry Gale, knew the little trick of the 5 second countdown, shutting the doors which he had done to Locke, and locke n Desmond did to Eko. Probably Ben has been in The Swan b4) and wanted noone to get on the Island or know where it is etc. At the end of ''The Man From Tallahesse'' when Ben was giving Locke his little pet-talk to him, I think that comfirms my theorie (well I hope) So I think that they could of used the Swan if they wanted to have contact with the outer World. If they wanted I think they could of went *Bang Bang* to Kelvin (since he was DHARMA, or not DHARMA? well thats another debate) and possibly take hold of Desmond and take over the hatch to keep communications with the Outer-World. If you agree with my point, why does Ben want no communications with the outer-world?

Ben was locked up in the armory when the lockdown was initiated. Desmond knew the trick from Kelvin teaching him using those faulty wires in the electrical box. I'm getting the feeling that Ben has little knowledge of what the heck that place was about. The only reason I say that is because him and mostly every one else is reffering to when the hatch imploded as an "electromagnetic anamoly". They aren't putting the pieces together and didn't say "Oh they must of not pushed the button over at the Swan. You see where i'm getting at guys?

I hear you Os. It is strange that the Others know nothing of what caused the anamoly. Perhaps none of them had ever been inside the Swan, perhaps kelvin wasn't lying like i thought him to be. I should have realized that because he was trying to escape on a sailboat that he isn't an Other, they know you can't go out that way.
The Others may have seen the swan on camera, but if you didn't have a map of it's location, you may never be able to find it. So, if the Others were never in the swan, then they wouldn't know about the magnetic thingy (scientific term, look it up) that was in the middle of the place

I agree with Os and Cable...that the Others had very little knowledge of the Swan's inner workings

Count me in. I don't think they had very much in any info on the Swan station. The first time Ben(pretending to be henry) is let out of the armory by Locke, he looks around and asks questions like he is genuinely curious and not just pretending.

I agree with all of that. Ben did seem to not really care about the Swan, he called it "a joke". I think it was a surprise to all the Others when the hatch imploding caused such significant fallout on their communications and ability to travel on and off the island.

Well the comment that was give by Tom when he catches Locke, Sawyer and Jack he tells them not to cross this side of the island he says some slick line like "You all come into our neighborhood, eat our food and open "doors" you shouldn't be opening"

The only door the Losties opened was the Hatch so the statement above indicates they know about it. However, your right in the sence they may not know what it does. However, we know the computer could have done more then just type the numbers because Michael used it when he thought he was communicating with Walt. And no one builds a full blown keyboard when they can only use it for some numbers and an execute button. So that must mean that computer could have done more then just what the oreintation said it could do.

Also, In the map on the blast door it form Lostpedia it reads in the lower right activity minimal during lockdown and restocking procedures. After the lockdown happened, a pallet of food was found in the jungle near the hatch. Charlie makes some connection between the two by saying something like “maybe that’s why the doors went down so no one can see where the balloon was coming from”

Either way I think Ben knows what the hatch is about and planted an evil seed inside Locke’s mind in order to question its purpose. Ben must have known it would have knocked down their communications. So he lied to Locke and led him to believe nothing would happen. After all he clearly has no intentions on leaving the island nor does he want any one else to either. He made it very clear he couldn’t just do whatever he wanted because the “others” would question his motives and trust.
