Kate Austen

Kate Austen is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Kate is a fugitive, and was being pursued by Marshal Mars prior to the flight, for blowing up her father. Kate had been captured in Australia and was being escorted back to the United States before the crash. Kate has always seemed to run away from her past. Even on the Island, Kate exhibits a kind of evasive behavior to escape from her problems. Kate, when on the run, always had good intentions and never did any outright harm or killings to anybody, she believed she was doing things for the greater benefit of others. This view is prominently connected with her actions of her father's murder - she believed she was relieving her mother from his abusive presence. Kate is strong-willed, useful and clever, but dislikes being alone and is usually level-headed.

She has escaped from the captivity of the Others with Sawyer, and has formed an ambiguous romantic relationship with him, despite still being unsure about her feelings for Jack.

Absolutely correct. The particular government entity would ALREADY have ALL of Locke's personal information, especially being as he had been receiving benefits.

SOMEONE is digging for non-pertinent information.

Oh come ON it doesn't take a genius! John Locke's disability was depression, that's why he has a therapist, that's why he spends his time in a dark room eating microwave meals. Finding his biological parents is relevant to his condition. That's why she suspends his benefits when he says he hasn't been seeing his therapist.

As for the two guys who jumped out of windows (in Hurley's flashback and in Jin's) they were both obviously suicide, no indication otherwise in either case. So Locke is the only guy who has been pushed out of a window.

Oh come on yourself! Have you even seen the show. There is obviously something larger going on with this show than just a mysterious island. The others obviously have information on the Losties; Juliet knew all about Jack. Mikhail (which according to the offical lost podcast - we should believe everything Mikhail said to us except for the Dharma membership) knew about Sayid, Kate Austin (whose Oceanic Manifest name was Kate Ryan) and about John Locke; Ben knew all about Locke. We understand that Locke was suffering from depression and had a therapist (we saw the episodes where he was in group). My husband was a therapist for a time and insurance companies don't ask questions like do you have a girlfriend. I also know that the guy who fell by Hurley's window fell face down, and Locke fell face up, and that Jin committed suicide (which is interesting in itself that two guys committed suicide by jumping out windows on the show), but still it's interesting to have conversation about three similar-styled deaths that happened on the show. Conversation and coming up with thought-provoking ideas is cool, not just shooting down everyone elses. I know your style is "in your face" to everyone, or is it just for my ideas?

Yeah it was kinda strange. Seemed like perfectly valid questions for a therapist to be asking, but an agent handling your disability claim?

On the otherhand the dialogue in the scene may be irralavent to a certain degree. The big thing was making us think he was talking about being in a wheel chair and then at the end he gets up a walks out.
At least that's the way I saw it.

I'm not doubting any of that, and I didn't mean to be offensive but you said "How is seeking your bio parents relevant to healing from a kidney transplant" when the insurance meeting wasn't about his kidney transplant, it was about the fact he was receiving benefits because of his depression. And seeking your biological parents could be relevant to that.

That is an excellent post! I too thought he was in there for a physical disabilty claim, not a psychological. When he stood to walk out, I had make a doubletake.

Can we assume that this session with the claims agent took place directly after his falling out with Helen, his analyst?

I am in no way saying that Lost isn't giving us a clue to a larger conspiracy. It is not only possible, knowing the show it's probable. With that said, I went through several years of disabling depresion because of my father's abuse. I delt with Therapy, doctors, meds, paperwork. I have been asked the most bizarre questions that I have ever been asked in my life. Most of those came from the Disablity dept. Yes, the qestions she asked are odd. But I was asked the same things he was. "Have I tried to get ahold of my father?" I said, Why the hell would I do that? I've been hiding from him for years." So, Bigger reason for the question. Maybe. Strange Question. Absolutely. Would the dept. of dissability ask it. YES!
