he knew he wouldnt have any leverage if he told her " what they said to him" they were listening and he knew that until he was off the island. he couldnt be sure they wouldnt double cross him. Also he may have been sparing her since she wouldnt be a threat if she didnt know whats up.

when its all said and done. jack will come back sooner than kate expects... and save her like he said.

I don't think the conversation was leading to her and Sawyer at all. Jack was clearly different and playing football with them for crying out loud. It just wasn't like Jack to her. Jack is a fighter and leader, and he was acting as if hardly anything happened, he seemed content.

Still, I do agree with the theories that he may have seen or been told something that changed his perspective on things.

u are right jenmarie, he wasn´t acting like jack. that s because he sees the sub as his only chance to get help and i think he don t like the thought to leave is fellows behind. but after 80 days and all that happened he still thinks u can find the island easy from the outside world? im wondering about this!
besides i think frogmeister is right. kate wanted to find out if jack knew about her and sawyer. but didn t anyone noticed that mr.friendly warned jack to be quiet, cause others can lsiten? why is that? sry for my english

Probably because he didn't want Jack to give away something that he knew ..

Jack's a fighter, yet he relented for the Others, for ben really, and Ben rewarded him with information(and the false hope of leaving). Jack seems to know what's up, and now that he knows, will we ever see him back at the beach again? Will he ever be allowed to leave Othersville, will he even live through the series? these are the questions we should be asking.
Even Juliette couldn't tell Jack the deal, because once you know, in your heart, that the island itself is incomprehesable, you really can't tell anyone else. Not that you wouldn't, you just don't know how to start a conversation like that.

I agree though, those questions are ones that we need to ask, and will probably be answered in the near future. Do you think they'd let them all just go back to their beach and live peacefully...nah.
